Ahmet Gülkokan graduated with a BA degree in Photography in 2006 from 9 Eylül University in Izmir. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Istanbul to continue work on a graduate degree in Photography in Marmara University, and for the next two years concurrently worked and gained experience in a ceramics studio. Following this, Ahmet spent 7 years working at one of the most innovative, original, and well-known home decorations, ‘@hiccrafts’. He developed a deep knowledge of home design and mastered techniques in the production of local indigenous weaving, stylizing it to modern designs for pillows, woven handbags and accessories. His designs weigh heavily towards indigenous hand-loomed cloth from a variety of geographical regions reflecting the cultural differences. Ahmet is very touched and excited to stylize these indigenous hand-loomed cloth to modern day fashion accessories and unite them with their contemporary users.
Ahmet Gülkokan took over ‘@hiccrafts’ two years ago. Along with his creations, the domain/store represents internationally known contemporary artists in textiles, porcelain, glass art, ceramics and modern accessories.
Additionally, Ahmet’s work is well represented in designer stores and museum stores (Istanbul Museum of Art). His originally designed bags are featured in many well-known Turkish designer’s seasonal collections.
